The aim is to assist people to achieve their reasonable goals and aspirations, within the framework of organisational expectations and objectives. It is a partnership in which the organisation supports people who want to realise their potential, grow their skills and contribute the best they can.

The first phase of six or so meetings over about three months identifies issues and opportunities, sets objectives, and provides the tools to work towards them. The next phase takes about the same time, and focuses on converting the new knowledge into successful actions. A third phase can consolidate and advance the new skills so that they become second nature, and so that it becomes natural for the person to continue their learning and development on their own initiative.
